1. About project
CAN YOU GUESS IT?
LEVEL: Primary level, very basic.
SUBJECT: Foreign Languages, English
AGE GROUP: 7-8 years olds
DURATION: 3 months
PROPOSED ICT TOOLS: email, presentation tools, photos, videos, chat, shared file archive.
SUMMARY: My students have a very basic knowledge of English and we are starting to learn how to write sentences and short paragraphs. After Xmas we are going to start talking about animals in our English class and we will describe some animals orally and in writing. I think that a very motivating way of doing this can be through a game, an etwinning game or perhaps a competition.
To start the project we could do a presentation introducing ourselves to each other as a way of discovering who we are, our countries, schools and our likes and dislikes… We can prepare presentations or send letters to each other.
Once we have got to know each other we can begin the “competition”.
My idea is to send a small part of a picture of an animal to the other school/s and the students from the other school then have to guess what animal it is and describe it. They suggest an animal, describe it using their imagination and the little information that they’ve got from the picture and send an e-mail with their answer. And at the same time we do the same with the picture that they have sent to us.
We can complete a presentation with the pictures and all the ideas that come up. The school that guesses correctly can win some points. I am not sure what the prize might be or how we can motivate them to get as many points as possible. I am open to suggestions.
Once we know the game well we can introduce video and do some of the descriptions orally and send the videos to the other schools.
After talking about animals maybe we can move on to food, school objects, sports (as next year is going to be an Olympic year) or whatever we find interesting for our students. We will see what develops as we go.
OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the project pupils will be able to…
• Write a simple description about an animal.
• Read and understand simple descriptions.
• Describe an animal orally paying attention to the correct pronunciation and intonation.
• Listen to a description carefully and understand it.
• Talk about the other schools, where they are, the languages that they speak, their routines, etc.
• Use the new technologies, presentations, e-mails, videos, etc. to exchange information.
CROSS-CURRICULAR:
By the end of the project pupils will learn…
• About the characteristics of some animals, what they eat, where they live, etc.
• About the new technologies and various ways of exchanging information.
• About other cultures and countries.
